Photos of the Family of
Huldah Arledge (1856-1949) and Lorenzo Dow Turner (1845-1926)

of Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada

Huldah Jane Arledge was born in Blue Earth, MN, the daughter of Alexander Rodman Arledge and Julia Peters. The family  returned east for a short time to Hardin Co, IA when she was a young woman (1870 census). She returned to the rugged west  soon thereafter, where she married Lorenzo Dow Turner in 1872 in Fort Collins, CO. They lived in Larimer Co, CO, Sheridan Co, NE, as well as South Dakota; in 1886 she got her Medical Certificate.

Her obituary explains: "She pioneered in Nebraska, South Dakota and Colorado before coming to Alberta. In 1912, with the first pioneer families, she came into the Grande Prairie country over the Edson Trail. With her husband and family she homesteaded at Kleskun Hill, 15 miles east of town. Four years ago she left the farm and made her home with her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Bertha Turner, in Grande Prairie. A born nurse and pioneer neighbor, Mrs. Turner gave freely of her time and strength to care for the sick and ailing when doctors and nurses were not available in this new community. Until the age of 75 she never refused to answer a call for help, no matter how severe the weather. She did the same wherever she made her home and could look back on over half a century of nursing service in pioneer districts."

The children of Lorenzo and Huldah Turner were Ida, Frank, Amanda, Ada, and Pearl.

Frank E. Turner married Bertha Lee Swart, and many of their children are also pictured below.
